“So how is married life?”
I cannot begin to count how many times I have been asked that question in the last three months, but hey I guess it comes with the territory. I feel like everyone expects me to answer the question with a Disney excerpt about finding my one true love or to bust into song even. Well I have news for everybody being married is pretty similar to being in a seriously relationship and does not feel that much different to us.
Before deciding to get married Alan and I had been committed to each other for seven years, 8 1/2 years by the time we actually said “I Do”. Surprisingly a lot has remained the same since we exchanged vows, except for my last name of course.
Marriage was a formality that we just kept pushing aside year after year until we decided what are we really waiting for? Our relationship is a bit unorthodox being that we are both individually independent within our relationship but it works for us. Alan is not a big believer in PDA and i don’t always come off as the most affectionate person so our vows and wedding were important for us to share with everyone and it gave our friends and family an insight into our relationship.
There are of course a few minor differences since we’ve married. We now refer to each other as “husband” and “wife”, which we are still adjusting to we both find those words so odd. Another difference is Alan likes to playfully refer to me by my maiden name Cienfuegos and I have to remind him that is no longer my last name.
Although life doesn’t seem all that different to us we are very happy in our relationship and formality just happened to catch up with us.
“When are you two going to start having kids?” Don’t even get me started on that question.

I guess he’s not Stayin’ Alive now.
omg no
